Very good for the price, friendly stuff, i felt secure, not as dirty as I read is some reviews; but it had a mouse in the room in my second night.

This 'HOTEL' provides free maps, guides and discount vouchers for all attractions. Its good overall, but not so clean. Hairs in a shower, dirty sink & mirror in a room, rat or something other which ate my chocolate bar form the luggage (probably thats why it is forbidden to bring drinks or food to your room).

We had a mouse in our room. There're free computers with free Internet in a hall, microwave, kettle in kitchen. Breakfast included. In Queen's day crowd could use our toilet (ground floor) for 2 euro/person. Staff of ready sympathy.

The room is very small. There is no space for the big luggages. The bed is not clean when we firstly check-in. The wall is very thin. I can hear everything outside and can't sleep well.

About Hotel Sphinx:
Very DIRTY rooms, corridors, bed linen and towels. It STINKS every where. The toilets at the Train station are better (at least cleaner) than here. We expected TWO STARS hotel but the level of service and accommodation does not meet the requirements. There are 48 guests in our group and every one of them is ready to sign this opinion.

I've stayed here with my girlfriend, our beds were kind of noisy and my pillow wasn't very comfortable, but as we needed to stay just for one night the Sphinx Hotel turned out to provide us with at least satisfactory service. And the breakfast was really tasty.

Clean hostel and the staff is OK but not a real hostelfeeling.
A bit far from town. More than 35 mins walk to the centalstation but trams going around the corner.

The staff is always helpful and the location is good and convinient to visit the two major musuems.but the cleanliness is a little bit unsatisfactory.

I would just like to say, that hotel on it's self was for me great! I tried out 3 rooms, all of them were more than expected or as expected. But I did have one quite big problem with booking. When I booked hotel, I got an email, that everything was perfectly fine, I paid 10% with credit card (no limit) and when I got to the hotel, I didn0t have a reservation, becouse credit card was declined?! something must have gone wrong in the connection or something, becouse I paid 2 plane tickets with that card and no problems at all.. Thank god, nice lady in reception offerd me rooms for the same price as I would pay with booking. Othervise as I said.. More than happy with the Sphinx! Thumbs up!

the cleaning of bathrooms is operated rarely and badly. In my bathroom was odour of urine all the thime (!!!).
Seems the direction operates overbooking, cause a night 9 people were in a 8 bed room and a girl has'nt found a free bed; so, finally, two guys have slept in a single bed (!!!)

1. there is no enough key for each guest. so always you have to ask someboday where is the key.
2. the bathroom services wasn't ok.

The staff was really nice. The 4 of us got to stay in a private 6 bed room which was great because we had room. Unfortunately the bathroom was full of mold. The breakfast was okay. Free Internet is a plus. And it wasn't in the center which didn't matter to us because we had bikes.

The basics. The shower in the 8-bed room I was in was leaking water on the floor causing a mildew-smell, that was not corrected in the 5 days I was there. Nice staff, good location. I might stay here again in the future.

The hotel was what we expected, nice beds. The fact your not even allowed to smoke on the balcony puts this place down, not nice tumbling down steep stairs feeling the bassline!

Very good hotel for its price range. Clean, Good Breakfast (Mixed toast, milk, cofee, orange juice). Clean shits, clean bathrooms, u can use the kitchen microwaves and dishes. Near the museumplein and a albert hein chain store! Very nice stay

Excellent hotel for the price and please disregard all the garbage you find in reviews as to the rudeness of the staff or the steep staircases (THEY ARE ALL STEEP IN AMSTERDAM!). We loved it - cheap, clean, and good location.

Spent 4 days in a 7people room with toilet.Room and toilets always clean.Hotel crew was very kind. Reception and door open 24h: no curfew,key-card.Good position to visit the city:close to Leidseplein and trams just 50m.Possible to leave the luggage at the reception

A bed and breakfast with dorms, you can cook lunch and dinner. It is also a clean hostel. Run by some sympathic people from asia and another man we called "the sphinx" because he looked mysterious. If you go there, take the card of the hostel : "Hotel Spinx" ! Its position is cool because it is not far at all from the museums and enough close from te city center (you can go by foot). The price isn't bad, even if you can find lower if you reserved long time before your trip in Amsterdam.
