The hotel location is very convenient, where closes by the metro station, and around 10 minutes walk to the Atocha train station. The room is very clean, and the staffs are nice, however, there is no air conditioning in my room during the stay.

Clean rooms, helpful staff, near Atocha station. Very good hostel. Some noises from the road can be heard during the night time.

Un hostal limpio, bastante cómodo y cerca de la estación de trenes. Las personas de recepción muy antipaticas y parecia que no querian recibir a nadie. Poca amabilidad y servicio.

Great location, right next to the metro station (Antón Martin) and just a 10 minute walk from Prado and Plaza Mayor. The building and the stairs are very old which might scare you a bit in the beginning and the plumbing makes some noise. However, the rooms are very clean and comfortable and the owners are very friendly. Towels are changed every day. I would stay there again if I were in Madrid.

We got the room facing Calle de Atocha, so it was quite noisy. Bed was quite small and squeaking, otherwise everything was fine. Good place for budget stay in Madrid, with perfect communication

the staff the one member of staff i delt with was very friendly. the place was clean and cozy. location is perfect. i think it is slightly different than location on map, therefor easier to follow the buliding number once you are in C. de Atocha. it is a normal bulding the 1st floor flat is where the reception is located and i was taken to the 2nd floor to another flat to where some rooms are. don't be put off by the staircase, as i intially thought that it refelected the quality of the. by the way internet wifi only works in the corridor near the door to the flat. it was perfect for the budget traveler

Great Location. Old building but cozy rooms and clean bathrooms. Not very good noise isolation. Though very good for the price.

Our stay in the Hostal Riviera was fine, can’t say anything wrong about it. Considering the price for the room, it is really decent. Suitable for those looking for a cheap place to stay over night after a long day of sightseeing. Private bathroom, TV (Spanish channels only, but enough to check the weather forecast), everyday service: beds made, floor mopped, fresh towels – you can’t demand more for this amount of money. We were lucky to get the room overlooking an inner yard, not the noisy Atocha street. The owners are nice and friendly people, quite traditional in the way they run their hostel and not speaking English (except for one man who could make himself understood while checking us in). We didn’t mind (it was a good occasion to practice some Spanish), but could be a drawback in case of any problems.

Not luxury, but clean and acceptable place, worth the money you pay. At walking distance to most remarkable places in the city.

Really very, very clean... Very nice people speaking Spanish only, but having no problems to understand what you want if you smart enough to show your needs. Few cheap food stores and market around. For us, being over 55 and liking some kind of comfort was very good. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Great location. It looks like a very old building, but the rooms are very nice, practically a small hotel.

Adorable place with lovely owner (about 70 years old lady). Very good location (btw if you go to the hostel by metro from the airport use the Anton Martin station!). Owner doesn't speak any English so lear few basic phrases in Spanish.

Very basic hostal run by an old woman. Our room had a balkony right at the road yet hardly much noise from cars at all. Our badroom was big compared to our friends' room, so that depends on the room you get. But all the rooms were very clean. Besides that the old lady will give you the key to the front door, so you can come and go whenever you like. Overall a very good hostal with a friendly hostess, a good location but basic facilities, don't expect a diningroom but you do get wifi.

Our stay was great. The location is perfect: less than a minute from metro station Anton Martin, next to a very nice neighbourhood with lots of restaurants and bars, and close to the city center and the museums.

On fridaynight and saturdaynight there was noise from the street (calle atocha) and because of thin walls we could hear our neighbours (only on saturdaynight), the other nights were very ok. The hotel is simple, but clean, perfect when you only look for a place to sleep. Staff is friendly but doesn't speak English, but this was not a big problem.

Nice place,a bit older. Our companion's room didn't have much hot water. Our first room was a bit oddly shaped but OK. On our return the new room was excellent. My Spanish was a bit challenged but owners were nice people.

A little bit strange entrance if you come for the first time (it's on the first floor). But it's very clean. Very good location, but sometimes the street is noisy. For this amount it's a very good deal. We had a great time (5 nights).

We stayed 3 nights. Perfect location, just 20 meters from Anton Martin Metro station...which is in the middle between center and museum, you can walk to every sites from there. 5 minutes walk to nightlife in Huertas/Atocha/Latina/Lavapiés...but very quite!

The hostel is simple but quite nice and clean. It's not in the city center, but very close to Reina Sofia and Del Prado Museums, and the neighbourhood is still and quiet. The hosts were kind and helpful but not always present...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for three days and it was what we needed. Clean sheets, an air conditioner, a short walk from the main plaza and friendly staff. It's a hole in the wall type place and we didn't really see a lot of other people, but we weren't looking for a party hostel. Also it isn't loud outside at night, which was good.

Very clean and quiet, despite the fact that it's on a busy street (calle Atocha). Impressive size of the room for the price.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hostal. While its entrance seems ominous (a worn wooden staircase), my single room (ensuite) is very clean and spacious. In the bathroom, everything looks new and very well-maintained. And there's even a television with remote. I would recommend this hostel, especially if you're traveling alone and don't want to make a lot of friends in a youth-focused hostal.
Mukesh, USA - Jul 17, 2009

Pros:

Extremely clean and well-maintained. A little pricey if you're travelling alone (all private rooms w/ bath), but it's better with bigger groups (we paid 70 Euros for a 4-bed room with bath). It's close to major shopping areas and big tourist attractions.

Cons:

Staff is very uptight. They don't like any noise, not all that friendly, and they basically run the place like a museum. It's also low on amenities--the kitchen and laundry facilities are off limits, no internet (though they have free Wi-fi), and some rooms have limits on when you can run the AC.

Overall: If you want a clean room with a great shower, this is your place. If you're looking for amenities or a fun, lively environment, go somewhere else.

Value for money; position very central, close to metro and all the sights you want to see. Don't be afraid of any noise, for it is the city, it is Madrid and it is Spain.

Even the beds make noise here! But if you don't make any problem, they don't make any problem! Relax and enjoy...

On 1st floor, run by a señora. Left to ourselves, quiet, very safe. 10 min walk to Prado museum, and not too far from other main attractions. Great deal for two nights.

If you want a cheap stay in Madrid, very friendly welcome and very accommodating staff/owners, very close to Madrid centre, very clean rooms and very close to a key metro line, do not even bother looking further. Hostal Rivera is the perfect stay. The outside facade is discouraging, and its not 5 star accommodation, but the rooms are exactly what you want for a cheap/clean/central private room in Madrid.

Right in the center of Madrid, halfway between Prado and Plaza Mayor, right next to calle huerta und plaza Santa Ana, we had a great week-end at the hostal rivera. the rooms are clean. we never had any problems or complaints.

The room was very clean, comfortable, and secure. The man who runs it was nice and helpful. The location was convenient but in a dirtier part of town near the Atocha rail station (of course that was a convenience to us as we were traveling by train). I was traveling with my niece so the "party" factor was irrelevant to us. Overall, I would stay here agin if I wanted the convenient location of the Atocha station.
