A quiet little hostel in the upper part of Manhatten away from most of the busy areas of New York. Central Park was right next door which was great for a morning stroll but it was a bit far from all of the main attractions as I soon found out.

The staff were alright, not many of them round to chat to, but the ones who were there we're helpful.

Rooms themselves were neat and clean mostly. Good place to stay if you don't want to be in the thick of things all the time. Transport after hours was a bit of an issue though.

Jazz on the Park Hostel cancelled my reservation 2 weeks before departure and didn't not refund my deposit either. I have sent 2 e-mails but there is no reply from them until today. I'm upset and would advise anyone to stay away from this accomodation.

When I arrived I realized by a banner that the place was CLOSED. After asking people in the streets they told me to move to the corner where they were still working. I went there and nobody answered the door. After hitting it hard as hell a guy from maintenance came and opened. He called the onduty manager (who was sleeping) who told me "didn't you receive a cancellation email?" Of course I did not.

Finally, I ended up at 2.30 AM under the rain walking with all my laguage, wandering through the streets to find another hostel.

Totally unacceptable. This is far away my worst hostel experience.

THE JAZZ ON THE PARK hostel is CLOSED!!!

I went all the way to uptown with my big luggage walking up to 106 th street.

After many door rings, the staff had told me the hostel has been closed since december 2010.

I was amazed why i could make the reservation when the hostel is not even working!

I request to hostelslcub.com to close the reservation for the Jazz on the Park hostel.

I want my money back! I paid for the booking fee- 2.00 EUR, and 10% deposit 2.20EUR.

I am afraid if other fee is charged from my credit card.

Please refund my money immediately! and close the reservation account for the "JAZZ ON THE PARK" hostel.!!!

not a bad place to stay for a cupple of days, but that"s it,staff was generaly very friendly(had no communication problems),subway is two blocks away and so is the central park,24/7food stores nearby,..,but some other things, like free "breakfast" or (superslow!)internet acces, unfunctional door cards, rooms in two different buildings,..,may take some time to adjust, otherwise not bad for this amount of money,..

There is a noise from water pipe next to my window and keep me awake all nights. The Staff could not do anything about it. Some girls sharing my room are very noisy and turn the light on until 1-2 am (at nights) and start making noise 5-6am in the morning. I told them to keep quiet but was ignored. Staff could not do anything. Internet was down most of the day when I was there. Not very happy but it is relatively cheap so I should not complain. Thanks for reading.

I dont like this hostel. For the price yu can get almost a hotel! and you have to add the tax - which is stupid. They should inform about the whole price when you boook this place. And you wont have a good value for the price. It seems they never clean the rooms. well, maybe they take trash from the trash can and make your bed, but for sure they never whipe the floor. the three days i was staying there - the floor wasnt cleaned and it looked like from at least a month nobody cares about that. The same is for toilets and showers. Be aware also when intend to leave uor luggage, they will charge you for that 4$ (they never do it in other places i stayed at) so its better you pay more and leave luggage in town at the Penn station (355 west 36Street = 10$) it cost more but you save about 30mins or more 1 way to the hostel.

I wont stay there any more when traveling again to NY

My room was in a block a few streets away from Jazz, no lift, bathrooms very dirty, place very old, bed was very old, noisy and the matress was larger than the bed.... on a top bunk this is very unsafe. Admittedly I did not get bitten by bugs, but this was still the worst hostel in NY.

It's a great hostal, the staff are inviting you all the time to parties, and the people that stay in there are very friendly. I stayed at a 12 girls room and the only inconvenient was that there was a girl really upset with us because we arrive late at night and make noice...but, come on !! if she wants privacy...don't stay at a 12 girls room !!!

I think because of the time of year (March), there wasn't much going on in the hostel and most people kept themselves to themselves. Also, the weather was terrible and the hostel ran out of towels so take your own just in case!

Check-in: Prompt and the staff is quite friendly. They tend to get quite busy so expect to wait a little while.

Room: Can definitely do much better with cleanliness. Bed was not made and had no sheets when I went in. However, I would like to commend the front desk staff for his prompt response. He got the cleaning lady to take care of it shortly. I would also like to point out that I saw a roach in the room.

Shower: Generally clean, BUT can definitely do with MORE hot water. The water was rather cold when I showered in the morning. I was shivering and freezing when I took a shower in the morning and in the evening. Important especially at this time of the year when the winter chill is still around.

Breakfast: I was really pleasantly surprised with the spread. There were bread, butter and jam, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, milk, coffee and oranges!

We had an private room in the other building. The room was very dark and quite small. The bathroom was nearby and was cleaned every day.

The position near Central Park and the subway was pleasant.

I was satisfied with your service and you can be assured that I recommend your hostel to others, but breakfast could be a little bit richer / cheese or honey or yogourt?/

I really enjoyed this stay.

The following points account for some bad rating regarding cleanliness:

-showers could have been cleaner,

(and maybe you should think of some place to put the clothes when taking the shower)

-some dust in the room

-I was bitten by some spider, or mosquitoes, or I do not know what

-the lockers were quite dirty.

Not a nice place to put your things in safety.

another remark:

the cards tend to "demagnetize" too easily.

Everything else was fine.

thanks

It' a hostel; not much comfort, but near the City of Manhattan. The Staff is friendly, WiFi is free. A small supermarket is just over the street, a hardware store to buy a padlock (if you havn't brought your own) just around the corner. Most of the guests are young people. Recommendable.

The hostel is work in progress now, so I can understand there is rubble somewhere, but it looks very dirty and unhealthy.

Restrooms and showers are dirty as well.

It's a hostel, so I don't claim the best confort, just more cleanliness and more care about the common areas.

Nice hostel, but my place was a block away from the reception in the fifth story without an elevator!!

Rooms are nice, but had to go back to the reception, because they just gave me the key for the house but not for my room!
