Deciding where to go for Christmas is always a dilemma, however, the cheapest solution is to spend Christmas in Europe, for obvious reasons.
Spending the Christmas season in a warm place is a dream of many, but we often decide it too late and the costs for the long-awaited white beach, somewhere in the ocean, become more than prohibitive.
Europe, however, thanks to the many low cost flights, is more for our wallet , even if at the last minute, and then there are the Christmas markets to see!
Of course, then it depends if you're the type for Christmas markets, or you simply want to detach the plug and take advantage of the Christmas holidays to see a bit of the world.
Where to go at Christmas in Europe, then? We tried to answer this question with destinations both classical and a little less well known, for a more varied choice.
BUCHAREST
Here is the first unconventional goal, maybe a little bit snubbed, some prejudices and some hearsay, however, Bucharest is a perfect destination for Christmas.

Ljubljana is a city on a human scale, you can visit it walking in a short time, without the stress of a big city.

HELSINKI
If Helsinki is not a perfect city to spend Christmas, we do not really know what to suggest you! Helsinki is very tied to the Christmas tradition, so much so that it is called "the city of Christmas".
Of course, it is true, the temperatures are much lower than ours, but to see it in December also means being able to enjoy it under a white blanket.

Why spend Christmas in Prague: December is one of the best months to enjoy this city, the snow never late in coming, hostels in Prague are not expensive and the streets markets must be seen!
KAUNAS
The Christmas capital of Lithuania, and you know why? Because for over 500 years St. Nicholas is the patron of this city and as you know is the corresponding of our Santa Claus.
Why spend Christmas in Kaunas: the city especially feels the Christmas, also because of its patron, moreover, it is very close to Vilnius, another beautiful city. You may think to visit two cities in one trip.

LONDON
At the beginning of the article we had mentioned that we have also considered the classic destinations, however London is always London.
London is beautiful in any season, but between Christmas and New Year the atmosphere changes, especially on 25 and 26 December, when every public transport stops and London is shown with another face.
Why spend Christmas in London: do we need a reason? Well, definitely for shopping, London is not beaten by anyone, also, in this period, it is full of other smaller markets, such as the one of Clapham farmers.

How we can't mention Cologne among the cities to go for Christmas in Europe! Cologne is the home of the markets, here there is the oldest Christmas market in Germany.
And then, come on, it is definitely not the usual Berlin!

A Spanish city could not miss, but we preferred Bilbao than the classic Barcelona. Bilbao is a city that has undergone several changes over the years, such as the construction of the Guggenheim Museum which worth a visit at Christmas time.
Why spend Christmas in Bilbao: because living Christmas in the Basque country is still an experience and because the city is filled with concerts until 31st December.
