Descripción

Caibaldi apartment is located just outside the village of Pietralunga (20 km from Gubbio). Caibaldi apartment is a 14th century stone building, originally a military blockhouse because of its commanding position, in the Umbria Tiber valley. Originally it was just a tower, but over the centuries, it has been extended on either side, and also upwards. When renovating the house, in 1997-8, we tried to use the existing materials as much as possible, from the terracotta paving-slabs to the stone doorways and the wooden beams, in an attempt to conserve the original appeal of the house.

After restoration, we opened for self-catering guests in the summer of 1999. There are three comfortable apartments, two to four-bedded, each with its own fully-equipped kitchen and bathroom.
Orange appartment: around 60 m sq, this appartment is also on the second floor, and is composed of a large room with kitchen, dining area, fireplace and sofa bed (double). A doorway leads to two bedrooms, both sleeping two: one with a double bed, one with two singles. Next door is the bathroom, equipped with shower. Again, the views from the windows are magnificent.

White appartment: around 30 m sq, this appartment faces directly out onto the garden in front of the house. It is composed of a large room with a cooking corner and double bed, which can again be divided into two singles, and a bathroom, with shower.
Caibaldi is situated at 600 metres above sea level, and is encircled by woods in some of central Italy's most undisturbed countryside - home to eagles, wild boar and deer. From the windows of the house, especially at sunrise and sunset, you can often catch a glimpse of a whole variety of wildlife. There are numerous possibilities for walks, trekking and horse riding, for experts and beginners alike, in the surrounding Appennine hills and along the ancient trails known as Sentiero Italia and Sentiero Europa. Around 3km away is the small medieval hilltop village of Pietralunga, whose centre has retained its charming historical appeal. The locals are very friendly and always keen to stop for a chat when you're wandering through the shady streets.
Caibaldi is also an excellent starting point for visits to medieval and renaissance heritage towns such as Gubbio and Citta di Castello (20 km), Perugia (40 km), Assisi and Arezzo (50 km), and Cortona and Urbino (62 km). Resorts on the Adriatic coast are one hour away, as is Italy's largest lake, Trasimeno (50 km). Both Rome and Florence are also easily accessible by car, at little more than 2hrs away.
