European Hostel

Awful. No central heating in freezing december; not warm blanket either, only a very thin one. Dirty. Unsafe. Staff most unnice. In Europe the place would have been closed by social services since long.

This hostel is in one of the sketchiest parts of downtown San Francisco. The area feels very unsafe (people sleeping in the street in front of the hostel). Staff is often unfriendly/unhelpful/absent. You may share the room with homeless people who are somehow let in. The kitchen is basically unusable; as soon as one person is in it, there is no more space. There is no safe luggage storage and the building is pretty shoddy. The main good part was bonding with other travelers about all being in the same boat!

The hotel could be cleaner. One bathroom is not enough. The location is great.

terrible staff very unhelpful and rude. the rooms were extremely dirty especially the bathrooms. bad experience in San Francisco

It was good enough for one night. I didn't like having a strange man in the ro with myself and my four girl friends though.

rooms were nice but the shared bathroom needed to be cleaned better shower stall had some mold and the sink had a slow drain other then that the stay was enjoyable

It was definitely your basic crash pad. There wasn't much space in rooms so don't expect to have visitors. Besides the minimum space, I highly recommend it. It was close to union square and the ball park and the service was great with accommodating my group.

So i am an american who decided to stay here. I believe an american should always be here to help guide these guys. Remember some will think americans are stupid judging you in one day...but i met a lot of good people here, from over a dozen countries. This place is awesome, you cant control who is in a hostel..sort of russian roulette..but i will stay here again

it was ok. i had a 4th floor, 2bed, private room. fire escape was padlocked!room was small but fine. the ad said air conditioner, but there was none. bathrooms way too crowded.kids were sad there was no tv in our room.kitchen would benefit from a good cleaning!

Wort hostel I've been in the USA!

Very disappointing. Tried to upgrade to a private and they tried to charge me a cancellation fee and then charged $10 more than the website had said the privates were. No breakfast. Not a very pretty place or location. Also, be very attentive for bedbugs (I have had them in the past and they cost thousands to get rid of)! I had bites that reminded me of bedbug bites and a review last month on yelp also thought so.

I think this hostel gives you the cheapest price to stay in San Fran.

I stayed 15 nights and it costed me just around 300 bucks.

Spent two days there. Great price and great location (the shady characters outside keep moving along and the hostel's security is top-notch). Cleanliness was perfectly acceptable for the close quarters, the amount of people coming through, how often I saw the staff cleaning etc. A good way to meet other enthusiastic and respectable travelers as well. No problem recommending this place.

The beds were made for children not adults so any movement made noise

Liegt einigermaßen zentral, aber in einer schwierigen Ecke, wir haben uns in der kleinen Straße nicht immer sicher gefühlt, im Hostel schon. Die Küche ist nur notdürtig ausgestattet. Bei uns gab's Mirkowellen Essen und Obstsalat, das ging.

The 4th level rooms are very hot in summer because of poor ventilation.

Prices and location are very good,but more cleaness and amenity are needed.

The good things about the hostel is that it was cheap and the commons area and kitchen were nice. However, the hostel is rather cramped since at least the room I was in had 3 bunkbeds and a desk and armchair. When I arrive there were only 4 people in the room and yet there was no where to step without stepping on someone's things. The lockers available have very small loops for locks, so normal padlocks will not fit, only small locks will. The shower room on the second floor has no shower curtain so the whole room gets wet. All in all, it's an ok hostel, they just need to make several improvements to it for it to be good.

Door was hanging off in the bathroom,I'm sure I read the place just had a renovation but it most definitely didn't. Not enough toilets only 2 on every level. Overall the location was a 10 minute walk to union square.

no refunds if you don't stay the whole time. beds are dirty. Room was extremely cold. sheets very thin. no food. Near the center of town, but not the safest place to walk at night.

I think this hostel could really improve if they starting work on the interior design a little bit more.

It's really old, old style and it's not really clean.

The position is perfect but other than that it's really poor quality. I think you should not have a fake caravaggio style dark picture into the rooms of an youth hostel.

dirty, smelly, no window in room, bathrooms were dirty and couldn't lock them. Didn't want to shower in there. Front desk person unhelpful quoting higher prices, doors were difficult to open/lock, anyone can steal the access code to get in, there should be someone at the desk 24/7, sketchy area, sketchy and unhappy guests, very sad energy and feel. Wouldn't spend a dime on it

My second time at this hostel: I stayed here because it's much less expensive. That being said, it's full of older non-travelers who are just making it home. It doesn't have the travel vibe and feels a bit sketchy. I heard there was lots of theft so keep an eye on your stuff if you go as there's no lockers.

Le réceptionniste de l'hôtel semblait s'ennuyer, pas un très bon accueil.

Chambre plutôt correcte avec un miroir et une table. Et il n'y a que 2 prises électriques!

Par contre,le plus désagréable a été les 2 seules et uniques salles de bain par étage! J'ai dû monter de 2 étages pour pouvoir avoir accès à une salle de bain, qui en plus n'était pas propre (la chasse d'eau coule et du papier toilettes partout sur le sol)!

Je ne recommande donc pas cette auberge même si le prix est plutôt correct, on peut trouver mieux et à peine pour quelques dollars supplémentaires avec petit-déjeuner inclus, ce qui n'était pas le cas pour l'European.

all in all okay for the price ... could be a little bit more cleaner. a lot of crazy people also living there as an alternative to expensive SF living costs ...

Run down and dingy hostel in a horrible part of town. The only good point is that it's relatively close to union square. The receptionist told me the wrong code to get in to the hostel twice, leaving me hanging outside on a street full of homeless people. Only stay here if you need something relatively cheap and don't plan on going out after dark...

If you are looking for a cheap hostel and don't expect much of it.

Bad housekeeping, bad showers, some rats at night, all in all a really cheap hostel.

dirty sheets, stinky, dirty bathrooms and dirty kitchen, hardly space in the room and no closets, no trash cans. only thin, disgusting wool blankets. unfriedly staff. you should like the smell of weed^^ the on the homepage described rooftop bar is non existend.

The gentleman who attended the front did a very good job of making us feel welcome and helping us get our room as quickly as possible. Someone give him a high five.

Il personale è gentile, ma l'ostello è molto sporco (tenendo conto che un ostello non può per definizione essere pulito), dalla mia stanza al piano terra non era possibile aprire la finestra, mi hanno detto che ci sono topi e non sempre l'acqua calda è funzionante.

Its great hostel! But the locatio is disgusting. Homeless people on every corner and smell of piss every meter of sidewalks. This area is the worst area what I visited in the world! It worth to stay there only if you know what area is this. Its heart of the center but the walk back to hostel at night turn to horror. But the rooms and stuff at the hostel are pretty nice and bathrooms and toilets very clean.

We enjoyed meeting open-minded and international travelers.

It's gross. There was toenail clippings on the carpet, grime around the toilets, doors were obviously violated. People using hard drugs. Basically a cut rate crash pad for local transients.
