Anavriti Hotel **

Driving from Sparta, once you pass the village of Agios Ioannis, you will reach Anavriti (after approximately 15 kilometres).

You will arrive at the square of the village (altitude of 790). Make a left turn at the road that takes you to the Kalamaraika township, and after 100 metres, you will reach a stone fountain, turn right and this road becomes a dirt road further down.

Right after the first right curve of the road, you enter the European path E4 on your left hand side. Approximately 10 minutes later you will see a little church. You then pass the Platanitsa fountain with the large poplars, and then you drive past the ravine with the wooden little bridge, you reach the intersection where you will see a dirt road and you will pass by a walnut field.

This is where you will see the intersection with the trail towards Livadi.
You go upwards towards the wooded road that connects Anavriti with Manganari. You continue on the wooded road to your left (southward) for 300 metres and you exit it to go upward to a pine-filled hill.

Because this part is quite steep, the trail goes upward. After this, you will reach a forested road which after 500 metres leads you to the central well of the old settlement of Lakkomaton (altitude 1.280).

Up to here, you will have travelled for about 2 hours. Following the trail which starts at the path with the southward direction, you will pass pine-filled hills, old terraces with tea and oregano plants, and ravines with springs (the most popular being Kanellakia and Tsagaki) until you reach (after 2 ½ hours) the trail which goes from Manganari to Katafygio.

In 10 minutes, the trail leads you to the Varvara fountain and after 5 more minutes to Katafygio.
