the'The'Ancient Saint Girolamo Residence',located into the heart of the seafaring neighbourhood'La Marina',in the homonymous little square,where yoy can still brethe the same atmosphere of the ancient alleys,which have always been the background of popular funny accidents.
Along the alleys, you could see the wives,the 'comari',sitting outside their house doors,busy with embroidring,with saying their rosary,or boostling about everyday housework,while waiting for their husbands to come back from fishing.
Scents,sounds,colours,bring our mind back to old times we haven't known,but which are still alive in those little houses history.
In the little square there is the small and simple Saint Girolamo Church.The confraternity named after the Saint,'Saint Girolamo fraternity'established in 1578 by learned men,chose this church as their headquarters,having it restored and saving the church from a predictable destruction.
On the high altar there is a huge canvas pertraying Saint Girolamo in the cave with his books and a lion.The picture was attributed for a long time to a Caravaggio's disciple.But recently,thanks to the Sicilian writer Andrea Cammilleri,who talks about this picture in his book'Il Colore del Sole',it has been taken again into account the hypothesis that attributes the work to the great artist himself.-Caravaggio.
