guy checking us in was drunk, not very friendly. quite intimidating. hostel was really grubby and outdated - could tell people were living there who weren't meant to be -- rooms didn't lock. didn't leave valuables. got back after checking in and one of our beds had been given away - took 2 hours to sort with said drunk guy. bedrooms weren't bad - bedding seemed clean just didn't feel safe and bathrooms/common areas were really grubby. personally wouldn't come here as a solo traveller - wouldn't stay here again. spend a bit more and stay somewhere else - only perk was the location (awesome)

Good place to stay, the rooms are nice and bathroom too. It's located in the festival quarter of Washington and 30 min walk from the center.

They don't have plugs next to each bed so a bit difficult to charge things

This is no place for students at all. I did not see any students there. The place was so small and crowded. It is extremely lacking in cleanliness. The beds are shaking. To my bad luck, the person on the lower bed of the bunk was messy and clumsy, and kept on shaking the bed. The room smelled badly. I had a most horrible and uncomfortable night. Hands down my worst hostel experience ever.

There is black mold in all the showers, just for good health it should be cleaned. Also a dishwasher would make the food safer and keep the books online rather than in a actual book. All pretty easy and doable things. I had a ton of fun here and everyone is very friendly.

The international student center is a special place, at an excellent location. You will see the local people and the Hill is an easy metro ride, so you won't need a car. Wunderbar!

Superlative place for students around the world. Stay for two months (February & March 2020). In spite of the coronavirus, it was a fantastic place. Will recommend it any time.

my first impression was that it was not very clean. Everything in the kitchen was dirty. dirty dishes in sink, the walls, the table, the floors, the stove top, inside fridge, counter or table where people place their food bags. I don't think anyone knows how to properly clean. I found 2 dirty pots with food in them on the clean rack? I showed it to the woman at front desk. Management should budget for some minimal updates; paint job, new pots, plates, silverware, reorganizing kitchen for better use, more storage space. Train your staff to properly clean, vacuum etc. the bedrooms are stuffy, not sure the AC works properly. The whole place could use a good paint job, get rid of clutter in the main lobby. It looks very messy. I hope these comments help your hostel improve the guest experience.

Cheap and well located, but very noisy (located right above a bar) and old, with a gloomy atmosphere. The last night, two guys came into the room at 3am, yelling and drunk, and one of them vomited on someone's stuff.. what a great way to end a trip!

I booked one night for three people. By the time we wanted to check in the guy said that they made a mistake and booked three lights for one Person instead. Well he didn't know what to do and there was no "I'm sorry" or anything like that. It was not the best experience. But it was nice to have breakfast for free.

The room, bed linens,and the restroom were all clean. I wish they would have had the towels more accessible (you have to go to the desk and ask for one). Giving each person some on the bed with the other linen would be handy.

The staff I met were nice enough, though I came in late and left early most days, so there was not a lot of interaction.

Thesignage out front is poor.

I did not go to the kitchen, or eat here so I can't comment on that.

My biggest complaint is the lack of lockers in the shared room. I am used to hostels having lockers for these rooms so I didn't even think to ask before I booked. I travel light so keeping my important things on me was easy but a locker would have made an enourmous difference.

Overall, its not lux. But I am also paying next to nothing for a prime location. If there had been a locker I would absolutely recommend this to people who will compromise on the expensive hotel.

The hostel is in a nice location (Adams Morgan) near many restaurants and bars. It's a ~15-minute walk to the National Zoo or the Metro (Red or Green lines). You do have to take the Metro (roughly 20 minutes) to get to downtown DC, but it's easy.

My biggest complaints are the Wi-Fi, which barely works in the rooms (and is a bit slow in the common room) and the lack of recycling bins inside the hostel.

The breakfast is very sparse (peanut butter, white bread, bananas) but I can't really complain for such a good price. I would have appreciated whole grain bread, though.

I would probably stay here again if I have another conference in the area (mine was at the Omni Shoreham, also about at 15-minute walk away), but it's definitely not the best hostel I've stayed at. The HI hostels make a great effort to be eco-friendly and provide good breakfasts, so I would stay there if I were in DC for a tourist visit and wanted to be closer to the central museums and government buildings.

This was truly one of the most disgusting hostels I have ever stayed in.

This hostel provided a great value and location. Parking is a nightmare, as usual in D.C., but the option for one night of free parking was really helpful! The owner was also very kind and put me in the girl's room so I wouldn't be the only girl in the co-ed room. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

The hostel is hard to find. It's wedged between two restaurants/bars in a thin doorway. The neighborhood is great with many restaurants from a variety of cuisines. However it's about a 15-minute walk to the nearest metro stop in either direction.

There is a spacious common area and bathrooms are nice (but only two single bathrooms are available so there can be waits). The beds are creaky and it's hard to use outlets from the top bunks. Space is a bit limited in the shared rooms, with people's clothes spilling all over and no personal lockers. Blankets and pillows are thin and somewhat uncomfortable.

Breakfast is not great. It's just bananas and white bread with peanut butter and jelly. The kitchen is messy.

I would probably stay here again because it's so affordable and I met some interesting people (and I want to try the West African restaurant across the street!). The staff are quite friendly. However, even for a hostel it is not luxurious.

The location is a blessing and a pain at the same time since it is in a very busy streets with a lot of bars and clubs around it is very noosy during the night and you can barely get any sleep. The staff are friendly but didn’t do much when one of residents been very rude and offensive towards and they just stood there and the guest has not been asked to leave and he shouted and woke the whole hostel up at 1 am.

Cleanliness wasn't that good as far as rooms go, but the beds were clean. Staff could have been friendlier and more open to answering questions from guests.

Since I am a visually impaired traveler from Nepal, I found this place accessible and the staffs were very friendly.

The place is in a great location but o the top of a pub, so extremely noisy and also maintained with the minimum effort. New Blankets and a proper mattress cost nothing nowadays.

I stayed the hostel for 6 nights while I was apartment hunting in DC and had a lovely stay.

The room was clean and sheets and a blanket were provided. The hostel is in a great location, super close to grocery store, CVS, and lots of good food nearby.

Staff was friendly and accommodating. Met lots of great people traveling from all over.

The kitchen is well stocked and breakfast is even provided!

Would recommend to any travelers looking to spend a few nights in DC!

Really nice and affordable place to be in. People are very polite and courteous. Plenty of markets and restaurants in the vicinity.

Insgesamt ist das Washingtion International Student Center in Ordnung. Die Möbel im Aufenthaltsraum waren ein wenig heruntergekommen und das Frühstück nicht das Gelbe vom Ei (Toast&Erdnussbutter). Dafür aber preiswert. Muss man selber entscheiden was wichtiger ist: Preis oder Qualität. Insgesamt ein freundliches Team

This hostel is great. Great location in a fun part of town, easily accessible transportation. Common area is great for chatting and meeting people. Breakfast is simple but good. Will visit again soon, I hope!

Has bed bugs, beware.

Great location, clean, nice staff. No towels. Not enough breakfast compared to other hostels. Most importantly, I couldn't get on my top bunk because there was no ladder, so I had to climb up a neighboring ladder and jump across, which was dangerous and uncomfortable. Other than that, I loved it!

The double bed in the private room was very comfortable and we prefer to be in private than the dorms. We would stay there again. The kitchen could be updated and so could the tv room.

Such a decent place to stay in and the location in DC is superbly awesome. Never a dull moment.

The room was not clean.

I need to leave around 7am and nobody who used to work there to make the check out. Just a guy who doesn't work there, was sleeping in the couch on the reception. So, they should give me $10 that I paid on the check in for the key of the room, and of course, I never got my money back because I had to leave to get my bus. I would not recommended to anyone. But the location is great. I walked to all the places like the white house and everything else around there. And the neighborhood is amazing. There are a lot of restaurants, bars, ans everything that you can need it! Even we the great location, I still wouldn't recommended to anybody. You can find something really better around.

Needs some renovations and some rooms are above a loud night club but if you are ok with that then it is a great value and a fun location!

Inexpensive, and the manager is mostly welcoming. I propose he: incl. recycling, renovate kitchen, add soap dispensers in bathrooms, replace reception couches with student furniture.

I propose DC consider marijuana criminal because Adams Morgan is reckless at night and overall depraved because of it.

Not perfect but I was definitely satisfied and happy with this place. If I had to go back to DC I would certainly look into staying here again.
