THE HI SAMAMBAIA HOSTEL is a heritage classified historical monument, one of the original Colonial FAZENDAS, built during the sugar boom from bigining of the 18th Century (Since 1741), located inside a beautiful Ecological Park of 8,6 Ha, with gardens and pounds designed by the famous brasilian landscape architect, Roberto Burle Marx. After renovations, the big house now boasts 30 beds, with full equiped restaurant and bar. In comfort and security, it caters for everyone's needs - all without losing the warm feeling of the original colonial ambience.

To ensure privacy, our spacious boys and girls dormitory rooms have just six or eight beds, with large individual lockers for storing whole travel packs. Private single and double rooms are also available, with the choice of private bathroom. Our friendly, multilingual staff are available to answer your queries on places of interest in the historical city of Petrópolis, giving extra tips and local information you won't find in your guide book.

We also arrange mountain tours; from one day trips, to bird-watching expeditions. If you are travelling alone, this is the perfect place to meet a group like-nature lovers and plan your ultimate Rio-Mountains experience.

THE HI SAMAMBAIA HOSTEL is owned and operated by an SWISS-BRAZILAN family. It is the only hostel in the city located inside a Natural Park. Just 5 km from the famous IMPERIAL MUSEUM, 15 min. from the city centre and a block from the main bus local station - HI SAMAMBAIA HOSTEL is the perfect base from which to explore the only Imperial City of Latin America and to prepare yourself for beautiful surrounding mountains.

At The HI SAMAMBAIA HOSTEL you will find yourself chatting for hours with fellow travellers after a colonial breakfast in the Canon’s Tavern. Watch international cable tv, or take advantage of our unlimited wireless web access . Chill out in a hammock with a good book at our Pool-Bar listening to smooth bossa-nova while tasting a good caipirinha. And in the evening, kick back with friends at our fire place – lounge where a good a red-wine can be served by the glass.
