Originally built to become the Swiss ambassador official residence at the start of the previous century this period palace has now become your hostel!

Set in front of the city's most beautiful and nostalgic view point (Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara), in the heart of Bairro Alto, The Independente offers both the chance to stay in a premium location as well as the comfort sought after by any backpacker.

All rooms have seating areas and high ceilings. Some offer balconies with river views. Modern Portuguese cuisine can be enjoyed in the Art Deco setting of the restaurant and bar. All meals and cocktails are prepared with locally sourced produce. Elevador da Gloria Tram Stop is situated right opposite the Independente Hostel & Suites. The Portela Airport is 8 km away, while the Caparica beaches can be found 20 km from the hostel.
