The Midland Youth Hostel

Biserica Amzei 22, apt 3, sector 1 - Bucureşti, România

Directions (how to arrive at the hostel) / Cum ajungeţi la pensiune:

From the train station (10-20 minutes):

By foot (20 mins): From the train platform, continue walking straight and exit the train station from the main entrance. Turn left and use the crosswalk towards the OMV gas station. After you pass the OMV, turn right on Calea Grivitei, the next street. Continue walking on Cal. Grivitei for ~1.3km to the intersection with Calea Victoriei (a main street). Continue straight across Cal. Victoriei and the street will change to Strada Biserica Amzei. We're located ~200 meters up on the right at #22, directly across from the French Embassy. If you pass Tonka bar, then you've gone too far.

By Metro (20 mins): from the 'Gara de nord' station, go one stop to 'Piata Victoriei', change to the other line (Blue, M2, in the direction of Berceni) and go for one stop to 'Piata Romana' station. Exit the metro and look across the street for the BRD bank and Madame Briolette hat store. The street between them will be Strada Biserica Amzei. Cross to Biserica Amzei and walk ~200 meters. Immediately after you pass Tonka bar on the right, we'll be on the left (look up for the hostel banner), directly across from the French Embassy at number 22.

By bus (15 mins): 79, 86 (on the left side of the train station) or 133 (across the street from the train statation), get off at 'Piata Romana' stop. Keep walking forwards, at the first small crossing you come across, turn right, on 'Mendeleev' street, then at the first crossing turn right again on 'Biserica Amzei' street and go to number 22 (past Tonka bar and the guard booth, which is in front of the French Embassy).

By taxi (10 mins): a taxi ride to here is less than 10 lei. Use the machine that will call a reputable taxi for you and not one of the many ripoff drivers that hang around the train station. Some good taxi companies are Meridian, Cobalcescu, Speed, and Cristaxi. The price listed on the taxi door should be 1.39 lei/km.

From the airport (30-45 minutes):

Express bus 783 (~45 mins), which you catch in front of the airport and get off at 'Piata Romana' stop - be sure to buy your ticket from the kiosk or the automated machine. Exit the bus and turn left, walking in the same direction as the bus will continue going, turn right at the next small crossing (between BRD bank and Madame Briolette hat store) and walk straight until you pass Tonka bar and then find the guard booth. We are across the street at Str. Biserica Amzei, nr. 22, next to Liceul Calinescu (a high school). Bus 783 runs nonstop at all hours.

Taxi (~30 mins) - You can call a reputable taxi (Meridian, Speed, Cobalcescu, 2000, Next) from inside the airport - there is a stand on your left or right directly after you exit customs and enter the arrivals hall. The machine there will give you a printed slip with the taxi name and number, which you will be able to find directly outside the airport. The right price will be 1.39 lei per kilometer and it will be about 35 lei total. Ignore the ads for "fast taxis" - these are more expensive. Using the machine to order a taxi is the way to go.
