Tallinn is a unique city, not well known by the mass tourist, but frequented by the careful and curious backpacker.

Tallinn is synonymous of tradition, history and innovation. Because tradition is still very present in people's attachment to the village festivals, such as the Jaanipäev Eve, the night of the magic that is celebrated on June 23. History because you can still see the tangible traces of the ancient city and in some moments it really seems to go back in time. Finally, innovation because the city has come to have free wifi that covers almost the entire city.

Tallinn is perfect for a weekend, in two, three days you'll be able to see all the major attractions of the city. Need some inspiration? Here's what to see in Tallinn.

THE CATHEDRAL ALEXANDER NVESKY

Located in the old town, on a hill overlooking the city, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was built in the late nineteenth century.

The cathedral was not placed there by chance, its presence on the hill is a symbol of political and religious power of the tsar.

In the Estonian language it would say Katariina kaik, but it is just a walkway which still retains the medieval characteristics of Tallinn.

THE CHURCH'S CLOCK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Designed by Christian Ackermann, the clock of the Church of the Holy Spirit is the oldest in Estonia. The church is very small and very pretty to look at, especially for its mix of styles: Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque.

The walls of Tallinn, one time, were 2km long, and it boasted 46 towers. Nowadays it is not fully preserved, but you can still admire large part of it, including a good number of towers, for the most part engaged on restaurants and hotels.

TOOMPEA CASTLE

The former Toompea Castle, now Parliament's building, is located right opposite the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The castle was rebuilt several times, in particular the part now dedicated to the Parliament, it was rebuilt just to host it.
