Nice friendly staff, good for meeting other travellers and lots of fun. Is fairly far from the old town but it isn't an issue as can get a taxi easily over that way. Would go again!

Hostel had not received Hostelsclub reservation. This is likely to have been because Cuban WiFi connection is sporadic. You should probably use a Cuban based website instead.

Lovely and helpful people.
bathroom of the 6 bed dorm was bad.

This was a really great hostel-the first I have been in. The manager and all the workers were kind and friendly. Ivan spoke impeccable English and assisted everyone especially with questions about getting around the country. They called a car if you needed one and got to make a few necessary calls from the managers phone and delived messages to me from her personal phone. By far worth the stay-has breakfast and lunch on request. Great stay, food and people- location was also very good for the price! Wifi now 24 hours across the street from the hostel-hot and cold water-could not ask for more!

The Staff with Maria, Silvia and Ivan were fantastic! They were always helpful and interested in how my staying was. Next time I´m going to Havana I would stay there again.

Thank you Maria for the nice stay here in Havanna! The hostel was nice,clean and located near the baseball stadium and so easy to found.The food was very good and served in big portion. I highly recommand this hostel.

The hostel was great, a little out of the centre of Havana but as most accommodation in Cuba is in the form of the private 'casas' this hostel is a great way of meeting people. Alejandro really made our visit special, taking care of our every need. We hope to come back again soon!

I would take that a lot of these reviews are questionable.
Location is out of the city centre and there is nothing to do around the area.
The toilet leaked and had to be refilled with the shower hose which also barely worked.
Really friendly owners though and they were really helpful with recommendations so top marks there.
it is not a hostel it's an apartment block, so maybe the other rooms were in better condition. All the casas we stayed in were fantastic though so I would recommend sorting a Casa.

For Cuban standards this is the best hostel to stay at , they have aircondisioners , and fantastic staff who go beyond expectations to help make your stay fantastic, Maria is the best cook, and supplies meals on request, not to mention Alex, whom kept us in hysterics , extremely helpful tourist guide and knows the Cuban people well, not to forget to say the cleaning lady does a great job everyday, in keeping the place clean

if you re looking for a place to meet lots of new people and party, this is where you want to book. It s really basic, but its clean. If you re looking for a quiet private place, you d better book somewhere else. Staff is very very helpfull and english is spoken very good.

The best place too stay! Maria, Alejandro and all their friends and family are amazing and helpful. When staying at Havana Backpackers you should get the breakfest and try the dinners. Always good! Try Marias pork!

Had a great time in this hostel, the owner and her family treated me really well. They cook really nice food and quite affordable. Good option to see the real Havana/ Me la pase muy bien en este hostel, la duena y su staff me trataron muy bien. La comida muy rica a precios baratos. Muy buena opcion para conocer la verdadera Havana.

It was really the best decision to choose Havana Backpackers. At first I have to say the staff was really nice. Every day we took our breakfast there which was really good and even cheap. The owner was a really nice Person who also made some dinner for us if we asked for. I really recommend to try the lobster. Alejandro is a guy who is also working there. He is about 23 years old and it was a pleasure to meet him. He showed us the whole city from his view which was really exciting because so we saw the real cuban life. We also go out with him in some bars and clubs you can only find with a local.
The location of the hostel is not directly in the centre of Havana but taxis are very cheap and in 7 minutes you can arrive at the capitol. The rooms are clean and there are two bathrooms.
I really would recommend my friends to stay there if they go to Havana. I will go back to Havana soon and of course would take my room there.

A wonderful caring enviroment to stay in. Maria is wonderful, her meals warmed my heart, simply delicous. So so reasonable, and tasty. Maria a kind and caring lady. I felt at home, coming all the way from New Zealand. Alejandro is the perfect host, be proud of him, was always safe in his company. He is a one gentleman and super guy. I stayed here for 5 nights and had a very good experience. Maria, Isabel, Nana, and Alejandro were very friendly and helpful, and their food is excellent. This is one of your best bets in Havana for meeting other travelers, although I was the only guest for most of my stay here. The location is not the best, though it is fairly easy and cheap to get to Habana Vieja during the day in a colectivo taxi. Vedado destinations will require a private taxi, and can get expensive. It is away from the tourist action, and right next to the baseball stadium, though.

Very basic place. Owner is a little bit nervous. The shower was dropping water all the time. Easy the find for taxi because of the Latino Stadium for baseball is beside the appartment.

Best place to stay in Havana. Comfortable clean beds, fantastic staff, great ambiance and service. The location is cool, in the middle of the real Cuban life scene, shared taxis (the old cars) bring you down town in 5 minutes. We met travelers from all over the world. Maira’s home-cooked breakfasts and meals are delicious and great value (best tortilla ever). Maira and Alex took care for anything. Amazing experience, hope to be back soon.

Very good for a really cheap stay but very basic with poor cooking facilities. Nice owner with some English. Owner cooks a very good meal if requested at reasonable price. I would stay again but is a little far from the action.

Helpfull staff and all the time a good feeling.
Two rooms with beds, two bathrooms with toilet, one livingroom. Perfekt to have a Havana Rum in the evening.
Best homemade meals (fish, shrimps, lobster) from Maria also the huge breakfast.

At times there were issues with the facilities but hey, this is Cuba. It happens all over the country. what's so great about this place is the people. Maria is such a friendly host and an outstanding cook. I ate at the hostel every night for a week. And her assistant Alessandro is a brilliant guy who speaks great English and is there to make sure all your needs are accommodated. I ended up staying there longer than I intended because I had such a great time, and also came back for an extra night at the end to meet the people again. Highly recommended!

The hostel was clean although it was a bit out of the old quarter (had to get a taxi). A guy that works there speaks English and is really helpful. The owner cooks a delicious dinner and big breakfast which is good due to not a lot of eateries in the immediate vicinity. I would recommend to others.

The most poor run Casa i have stayed in in Cuba.
The staff were rude, the place was a dump. We turned up, having book for 5 people, 4 in one room and one in a seperate, when we arrived we were told that there was no room, then they were going to put 2 of us in one room and 2 others in a different casa half way down the street and the 5th the same, in a casa half way down the street in the other direction.
Eventually after a 2h wait and alot of complaining we were all put in the same place, but only 2 beds for 5 of us, and then had the cheek to get us to pay full whac.
To top it off they said the 10 percent deposit i paid online wasnt valid as that was only to secure a bed and wasnt part of the over all price.
If i could swear on here with out my review being deleted i would.
Defently stay away, it is a SH1T HOLE.
They put casas in Cuba to shame and give them a bad reputation.

Recommend th place highly! Maira´s place is lovely, and so are the host and her breakfasts. Although a bit further from centric Havana, there are goos bus connections and if you happen to be there during the baseball season the stadium is right next door. Maira was really helpful and flexible and generally buena onda.
