Overall an ok stay. Unfortunately there is no community vibe to this hostel making it difficult as a solo traveller to meet other like minded people. Considering the heat wave during the summer months, more fans should be provided in the rooms for guests.

Hostel has a good location, if you're going to buy pass for boat (then it's about 20 minutes with amazing view for reaching main island). The island where hostel is located has own special atmosphere. It is also more quiet and there are no so many tourists. Nearby there are shops, bakery and cafes. Hostel is clean. Staff are really kind and helpful.

Staff was not very helpful and hardly on the spot. Room smelled, too hot and just one fan. Room, showers and restrooms weren't cleaned the whole time. Showers were horrible and the kitchen, too. The whole hostel is a mess and not very appealing. I wouldn't recommend it for the price.

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time! great location,very nice people and very cheap. 100m away from a cheap supermarket. would 100% recommend for someone who wants to travel low budget but still close to the city centre.

I wanted to love this hostel the staff were friendly it had good facilities kitchen wise and was ideally located being just a short ride across to marks square, however their is no getting away from fact this place was a bit dirty the bed were clean but rooms smelt unpleasant and we found a pile of dirty washing in corner. However it is a good price and if your looking for cheap option and not to bothered about being somewhere a bit untidy it's a good place to go

Really liked the Hostel, it was exceptionally good for the price.
Its really near to the Rendetore ACTV station.
There where local students working in the Hostel which we spend the evening with.

The hostel is very well located and the staff is very nice and helpfull. We had a great time talking with them. The only negative point is the bathrooms (we were in the ground floor). There is only a light and little curtain that isolate the showers even if it is mixed (boys and girls) and no private space to keep clothes and towel dry. Besides it, no space to put soap and shampoo and some shower are a little broken.

Very friendly place!
Relaxed atmosphere, clean, friendly staff. Quiet located, but only two boatstops from saint Marco. And lovely view from the front of the hotel towards the opposite islands.

The receptionists are very efficient and welcoming. Very good and reliable commincation before my stay. Room (stanza singola) very nice and clean, perfect. when I was there respectful and silent people during the night. Maybe (?) more difficult in shared rooms, eventually the heat could be a problem there...to check...But..The GUESTs must definetly better clean what they used in the kitchen because its students who live there cleaning it.

Fantastic hostel in One of the better place in the world! There's not air conditioning but the room was clean in a very quiet area !!!

Very good hostel in Venezia ! It is clean, quiet. And we enjoyed giudecca island !
The only desagrement : the heat on the second floor. But it was 40 degrees during the day...
I recommand jan palach hostel.

We had a wonderful time at Jan Palach! The hostel was located less than 50m from the Redeemer Church, where one of the city's largest festivals took place on our first night there. The staff was very friendly and gave us great hot spots to visit in Venice. I highly recommend hostel Jan Palach for anyone.

Our room was quiet,clean,with very comfortable, firm, flat beds. Access to kitchen facility was good. Staff were friendly.
Despite being close to the centre, as you might expect in Venice, you have to get a water bus.We usually enjoyed this however it could be crowded.
We enjoyed the hostel experience of meeting young people. We felt included in conversation despite being in our 60s.
Sometimes the kitchen got a bit messy. i don't think this is a reflection on staff as hostellers should clean up after themselves.
This place enhanced our stay in Venice.

The Position of the Hostel is just Great! Guidecca is a lovely Place with a higher Population of natives which is rare in venice. The Hostel seems to be Student Run. The Rooms are clean enough. And a Bonus is you can get 2-bed Rooms. Kirchen is huge! Shower are ok but have Seen better days. Prices ok would expect a higher Standard for that though. In total: recommandation.

having the possibility to cook and use all kinds of dishes is really valuable. Stepping out the front door and having dinner by the water, via a vis San Marco is extraordinary.

A really great hostel with super friendly staff, nice and clean rooms and very affordable even during holidays... Not on the main island of venice but still reachable in moderate time. Very good choice!

Amazing location, amazing view, superb staff. Would like to have lockers in the room. people are amazing and hostel very safe but just dont feel comfortable with the passport not under locks. Amazing hostel, definitely first choice when I return to Venice.

Hostel was in a great location, regular vaporetto's to St Marks Sq etc, large amounts of storage in kitchen, rooms decent size.
My only complaint would be the shower room - 3 stalls with shower curtains that dont actually fit so gaps at the sides!! Door to shower room doesnt lock either so not very private - ground floor shower room is for male & females together!!

The hostel is located on an island, which is very quiet. Just with one boat stop you'll be in the busy centre of Venice, and when you need rest, in just one boat stop back you feel the nice and quiet environment again, great!

Staff is very, very nice and the rooms are quite ok. Venice simply is expensive and this seems one of the better offers there.
Be advised, though! As the hostel isn't located on the main island, you will have to travel by boat every day. Check www.actv.it for prices etc. and add these to the daily costs.
Also note! In Italy there is a tourist tax almost everywhere. The hostels and hotels often do not list this as part of the price, before check-in; sometimes not untill check-out.

Great hostel on the beautiful island of Giudecca. Very helpfull and frindly staff! The vaporetti stop Redentore is just a short walk from the hostel.

I would highly recommend this hostel. It was incredibly quiet & clean. The staff were lovely & really helpful. Having the kitchen to cook in was such a relief because we were needing a home cooked meal. It was well stocked with all the cooking equipment we needed & was incredibly clean. The bedroom was a good size & the beds really comfortable. I'd stayed in another hostel last time I went to Venice & the Jan Palach was 100% better than that. It is only a short, one stop ferry ride to San Marco Square but being out of the centre of town meant that it was quieter & less touristy. A great place to stay.

Nice place almost opposite to St. Mark Square. Quite good water bus connection (actually, there is no bridge, so you need to use water bus or water taxi to go there).

This was my second time in "Jan Palach". First time with professor in a double room with shared bathroom and now with my wife in a double room with private bathroom. Will come again when in Venice next time.

Everything perfect with the accommodation. Really enjoyed staying there. I was aware that I would need to take the local transport boat to reach the Hostel, just didn´t know that it was that much expensive. (20€ for 24h 09/2012)

NO FREE INTERNET. It was the biggest problem actually. I missed also private baths in rooms. As for very short stay - it's enough, but for longer stay - inadeqate standard for foreigners. Lower leveled roomes should have also air conditioning, because we had to almost all the time having windows closed (=> room was in the ground level of kitchen patio; our windows were much below opposite's house windows; mosquitos at night were horrible !!!). In general - as a low cost hostel for short stay - it has good value per money because of suitable localisation and nice panorama of the old Venice.

This is a decent place to stay for a reasonable price. It is clean, spacious and everything is in order. I was happy to spend the time in Guidecca. It is a beautiful place and very commutable to Venice.

The hostel and its location on the island Guidecca is very nice and easy to reach with the ferry. Bathrooms and room were overall clean and the kitchen is quite big. I can abolutely recommend this hostel.

The staff is very friendly and helpful!!! Don`t expect to much from a hostel in this price category!! The hostel is ok,at this price level. It is near the city center and you can use the boats metro all the time.
