Our host met us at the Hostal to tell us she had overbooked and that we had lost the deposit (non-refundable as paid to hostels club, not her).
She showed us to her friends place around the corner, where we stayed, which was fine, but not what we had paid for.
It's not really necessary to book a Hostal in Trinidad - if you're coming by viazul there will be a bunch of casa owners waiting for you at the station, desperate for your business and offering cheaper prices and better service.
Upon arriving at the hostel (3pm) the room was given away and the lady pretended as if she had never seen our reservation.
Ofcourse she did know of another hostel nearby where she was able to place us.
So be careful when you book
