The film Sonar Kila shot by Satyajeet Ray has a lot to do with this name. The place not only came into being when non of the other capital cities of Rajasthan except Chittor, were in existence.
It was during Mahabharata days that lord Shri Krshna came to this area for some reason and indicated to his disciple Arjun that his (lord) descendant shall build a fort at the location where it stands today. Beside the glorious past which any well meaning person will be proud of, the place is charming as hussal and bustle of modernity has not yet caught up.

Meera Mahal is truly a heritage hotel as owned by Ranidan singh tanwar, a family who were associated with the royal family of Jaisalmer. The hotel is now being run by Yogandra Singh Rathore Scion of Rao Bika, the founder of Bikaner State. As another heritage family, Yogendra also owns a hotel called Shri Ram heritage at Bikaner. Both the hotels put together form Rao Bikaji GROUP OF HOTELS. The building is an epitome of local art and architecture. The fine engraving on yellow sand stone look excusetive. It is most central and hugging to the famous monument Pattwon ki Haveli. The Trikoot Garh is just a stone throw away.
