This place is an excellent value for the money. It is exceptionally clean and well decorated. The couple who run it are very sweet and accommodating. They even upgraded us to a better room when one became available. They offered a nice breakfast with cappuccinos, pastries, toast, jams, meats and cheeses, and fruit and yogurt. They only spoke Italian, and we only speak English, but their graciousness bridged the language barrier.

This is a place with really thin walls. You here everything inside and outside. They only have separate beds, which is too bad if you stay here with your boyfriend. They call it a B&B but you don't get a real breakfast. Fortunately there is a great coffee bar next to Hotel Esty.

Located on a very busy street, so I recommend bringing ear plugs. Beds and toilets were clean and well-maintained; however, I didn't see a bath towel being provided by them. Shared bathrooms (about 3 of them, I think). The owner didn't speak English, but you'll manage with hand gestures and simplified English words. Got 3 - 4 minor bug bites. Located in the Travestere area of Rome, which is supposedly very nice. However, at times, the dimly lit streets and sketchy-looking folks made me a bit nervous. The tram (#8) goes right across the hotel, but I used the buses to get around (i.e. Bus H). Walkable distance to Spanish Steps, St. Paul's Cathedral, and Trevi Fountain (if I recall properly) - about 30 minute walk, but that's the best way to see the city anyway! I would recommend Hotel Esty for people on a tight budget (2 nights for $37!), such as backpackers and students. For couples and older folks? Not really.

Hotel was generally clean, personel was quite ok, but hardly speaks English, so it is sometimes difficult to find out sth. Breakfasts are quite small - only coffe and croisant in the café across the street.

-okay for 3 or 4 days (not for couples!!)

-clean

-you share a bathroom/WC with circa 8 other guests (it was clean and you had hot water)

-the beds are not very comfortable

- about 15 minutes to get to the centre of Rome, good infrastructure

-you think you´re in a small, original Italian flat, not in a hotel!

Hostel is very clean, friendly staff, good location (in front of Bernardino di feltre tram and bus station). I had a room in the side of the Trastevere street and it was difficult to sleep because of big traffic day and night.

Difficult to say regards fun and atmosphere as I was staying due to being out with friends that live in Rome so came in and out. However would definately stay here again, the staff are lovely, the location is great.

I went in this hotel with my girlfriend and i found it a very nice place! The rooms are big and very clean.Though the bath is shared that not represent a problem because they have 4 different bathrooms. The staff is very polite and helpful. The place is far from the Trastevere station only 10 minuts, so you can easily reach the storic centre. Price is fair. Strongly raccomended!

The bandb was clean, the owners were really nice and welcoming. And the area in the city was really fun to go easily to see the antique roma, vatican.

The staff is the unfriendliest one we have met in all the hostels we have been to in the whole european union. And it is a mystery what the second B in the B&B is for, perhaps it means Bed & Boring or something like that, anyway don´t expect a Breakfast when you go there. But to say at least one good thing, it is very clean.

Hotel Esty is really the best hostel I ever seen! So clean, so home-style cozy and hospitable staff.

If I'll travel Roma again, I necessarily stop in this pleasant house.

old lady in the reception was very kind but she doesn't know English.. they have a laundry but they don't let you to use it. rooms are big enough but if your room is facing to the street you have a problem.. you cannot leave windows open because the balcony is reachable from the next door..

Nice and affordable pension. I stayed in a single room for 3 nights (very nice, quiet and clean) and then came back later to stay in a dorm room. The latter was on the side on the busy street, which is not very recommendable for more than 1 night (noise, heat, fumes, etc.).

The host is nice and helpful. It is valuable for low budget travel. Location is not at Rome centre, but you can take the bus or tram easily to the metro station. Overall, it is a good choice to stay at Rome.

Very nice to spend some nights in Rome for a very intersting price. People were very nice and the hotel is just near the tram station (5 min to go to the center). Moreover, the neighberhood is awsome (Trastevere).

Hard to find at nighttime. Staff very friendly, but don't speak English. Small, simple, quiet, cosy place. Trafik noise can be disturbing at nights in the rooms facing to the street.

Nice and clean room. Perfect location (30 min. both to Vatican and city) but next to busy street therefore is quite noisy. Breakfast included, however very modest (croissant and coffee). Friendly and helpful staff.

Our stay in the hostel was quite pleasant, we booked a room with a double sized bed, it was clean and cousy. There was a condicionier as said. The staff doesn't speak english, but that wasn't the problem, because we didn't need anything. Hostel is in a good location, it's little further from the tourist route, so it's more italian and non-comercial place :)

The hostell is very clean, and the staff is very friendly. They don't speak English very well, but they are willing to help, so with a little bit of effort things should work out ;-) The entrance to hotel Esty is a little bit difficult to find, because the entrance is inside the gate and we didn't know which door bell was for hotel Esty.. Anyway the tram and the bus towards the city centre are stopping right in front of hotel Esty, even if you walk the distance to the city centre isn't that far.

The furniture in the hotel is quite old, and so are the beds, but everything is kept very clean and nice, so for the price of 15 euro's a night this is not bad at all. Also right downstairs there is a restaurant and a bakery, which is really nice for breakfast, so you don't have to walk a lot in the morning before you can have a proper breakfast ;-)

In short: A good hostel, cheap and near the city centre!

The pensione is almost what I was expecting, is a simple place but is clean, calm and cheap.

Just a point, they told me that i shouldn't have breakfast when i arrived!

I liked my stay in Rome.

Authentic place - not a hotel but just an acient roman appartment with high ceilings and spacios light rooms. All the furniture and equipment is total rarity (but in good condition) so that one can feel real italian-style life. Atmosphere is fantastic. Hovewer if you are used to traditional hotels maybe this place will be a dissapointment. If you want to discover real rome this is a must see. Staff does not speak English so dont try to ask for transport routes and etc. as you can be misunderstood and disinformed in wrong direction. It took as a while to find way to vatican from there. You have firstly to take a tram 8 to Argentina square than a 64 bus to sant peters square or by foot. To get to center use direct bus H or 3 from hotel. there is no signs of hotel on the building its just a real estate have to ring the "pension" bell by the arch then enter firs left door in the arch and go to level 3. Have a nice time! if you have some questions contact me lena_serditova@mail.ru

Great location, close to city center:30min walk or 5min tram num8.The room is big and clean but quite noisy at night and not so well lit.The bathroom is also very clean, they clean the rooms and bathrooms daily. The beds are very old, blankets and towels are clean but also very old and worn. The owners are very nice and polite but can't speak English at all.We managed to communicate somehow...We didn't have any breakfast as advertised (we paid 27.5 euro per person per night). If your visit to Rome is short and you need just a place to sleep over then I will recommend this hostel.

Excelent hostel! The only problems I found was: no internet (that's really annoying, but well, I could deal with it) and a little bit noise street at night (but that didn't annoy me at all - I have no problems in sleeping at noisy places).

really the only thing good about this hostel is the fact that it is one of the only ones in trastevere, and it is relatively inexpensive, but i would never have paid a penny more for it. they dont even take credit card and the owners speak no english.

Very nice hostel, they even change the fresh flowers daily. Rooms are spacious and clean. The neigbourhood is fine and its about 30 min walk from both vatican and centre. Only complaint is a noisy tram that passes by the hostel.

Good location with buses and trams just outside, near trastevere neighbourhood which is really lovely. But their beds were awful, we had to use muscle relaxant pills for two days to be able to walk again. They wake you up at 8 am forcing you to have their breakfast which includes just warm milk with sugar and a bit of a coffee poured inside and supermarket brioches. Overall if you don't plan to stay more than 2 days you will get what you pay for.

Great hostel with really nice owners. They don't speak English so beware of it. Hostel is located in quiet and safe neighborhood, not so far to the center. Unfortunately there is no kitchen, but there is a plenty of cheap cafeteria around.

Great place to stay in Rome. The tram stop is right outside the front door and there are plenty of restaurants in walking distance. The owners do not speak much English, but were very helpful and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and the rooms and bathrooms were spotless. The rooms that face the road can be noisy at night on the weekends, but nothing earplugs can't take care of. I definitely recommend.

Nice, cosy rooms.

Friendly owners just make sure you speak some italian or have a little booklet with some words in it with you.

Hostel is not easy to find, its on the third floor of a big building.

Lots of noise if you're room is located on the big street, buy some earplugs.

Very easy to get to the centre of town on foot or by public transport.

Possibility for a transfer to the airport.

We were there over New Years week and it was GREAT. The owners don't speak English but they're very sweet and helpful. The rooms and bathrooms are sparkling clean. Our room had a balcony and the noise wasn't that bad, even facing the street. Central Rome is a 15 minute walk or 2-minute tram ride away, and you can take a cheap train from the airport to Trastevere station. Trastevere is a safe, charming, kind of bohemian neighborhood that's fun to explore. Highly recommended!

I reserved room in Hotel Esty in category Bed&Breakfast and:

- there was no breakfest, no kitchen, no hot water for tea

- picture on site isn’t from this area – entry to hostel is from main street Trastevere through gate – there isn’t information plate of hotel on the street (there is small inside gate).

- on site is information : guy-friendly – but there is no footnote – only in italian language.

- it was written: “standard double bed” – there was 2 beds with big hole between – i went with my wife to romantic Rome... grrr.

But anyway this is clean, not so expensive place.
