This could be a nice place to be, but it badly needs an investment of some 10000 Euros in new furniture and sanitary installations. The reception service is bad and the owner is a bit greedy.

Lovely place, clean and organised.

But wifi is only in the reception area and they do not have aircon. Venice can get extremely hot during Summer! Other than that, the location is perfect and the staff are friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.

This is FAKE!!! This Hostel only exists in den Summer season in a students dorm. I came in Oktober and there was no Hostel at the given address. In the end my reservation was value for the Hotel Iris which is old and crappy. If u are looking for a young hostel atmosphere don't book this!!!

When we arrived we found that "Backpackers Hostel Venice" did NOT exist anymore. It seems to be a structure used as hostel only during summer months. It was link to "Hotel Iris" though where in the end we allocated even better than we would have at the Hostel. It was VERY unpleasant though to find we had a reservation for a place that didn't exist anymore and to have to do research to get a place to stay.

This was in a really good place, and it was nice enough, but it wasn't really very good for meeting people, and the heat was unbearable. It's not the hostel's fault it was so hot outside, but a fan or something would have been really nice. The mosquitos ate me alive because we had the windows open all night for a little breeze. I also slept on the floor one night because it was moderately cooler on the floor. Again, it's not the hostel's fault it was so hot and humid, but I would seriously consider staying somewhere else if I came back to Venice in August again.

Hostel was in a good location, everywhere in Venice is very close. Staff were helpful when trying to navigate around venice, even at one point taking us to the right road! Not so clean, shower blocked and hairy. Said it had wifi but did not.

we had a supirior double bed room with private bathroom: room was dirty (hairs all over the bath floor, in the shower), the sheets were sooo hot and when i ask for lighter ones they charged me 5 euro! Really central, in the nights its quiet at 23 oclock, beds are uncomftable, staff is nice except you want something than you have to pay for everything...

Nice place! I was surprise how quiet it was :) I slept super well. It's near of a bus boat stop so you can access every part of Venice easily. The staff was super nice too :)

very annoying that they put us in a different hostel to that we had booked. especially since I had emailed the previous day to ask for directions. otherwise it was fine. good location. rooms were big and not too hot too.

very nice location and wide, comfy rooms. bathroom was a bit old and flush didn't work but they fixed it immediately. helpful staff who also took one of us to the pharmacy for an emergency. too bad there was no wireless in the rooms, but definitely positive experience.

Very friendly, helpful staff, very clean shower and bathrooms. Was wishing for a small fridge and missed air cond. It was steamy hot in the room. For price paid for single room got my moneys worth, considering how central the location.

Since it was low season, the Venice Hostel was being used as a Students Residence, so we stayed at the Iris. It was a very good four beds/bathroon room. It's a Hotel rather than a Hostel, but it's a good place, with an excellent shower and in the heart of the city. We recommend it!

This hostel was fantastic, a hotel room shared between 3 people with individual single beds, linen and towels . Very clean and private bathroom , heating and lots of space for belongings/luggage. It's only fault was that when you opened the windows lots of Mosquitos came into the room, but it's positives really outweighed this. Thanks to the staff who were fantastic and accommodating

I was placed into the hostel's sister hotel, the Iris, because it was low season, and it really was very nice and comfortable, and located in a terrific spot in the middle of Venice. Staff were very knowledgeable, polite and helpful. Wifi only worked in the common room, not in the upstairs rooms, but that was probably the only drawback.

Way too dirty, I've travelled a lot and it's the first time I have to clean up the toillets and the shower before I can use them!!! The restaurant on the other side was really nice though!!

Perfectly located however it's not very clean, there's no wifi and no proper common room to meet fellow travellers.

Really dirty, we suspect that there were inches and drunk people screamed in the Campo San Tomá all throughbthe night. We will not repeat

Room was great size, but the shower was extremely dirty and ice cold. Very hot at night as there is no AC. Even with windows open there was no wind and mosquitoes came in. Staff were helpful and friendly. Central location, very easy to get around, close to pub area. Besides a group of Italian 15 year olds, didn't see anyone else in the hostel.

actually that is not a hostel, that was is just a double room in Hotel Iris with 2 more bads and WC/shower which has no lock. Also they do not have lockers but you may leave documents and other things at reception. the place in general is really good., but there is no kitchen and internet only at the reception.

Really helpful staff. The private room was huge and this was a really quiet hostel. Bathroom floor could have used a mop once in a while. Didn't see many people but was out for most of the day. Great location only 15 min walk to the train station.

I live in a room of Hotel Iris. The Saturday night is so noisy that I could not sleep in the whole night. I think the noise comes from the night party (or club) in the right hand site of the Hotel.

Morning staff really great and helpful, the night shift a little more complex to deal with.

Upon arrival we got a key of a room that was already full and one night when we retruned back to our room there was somebody lying on my bed (all of our stuff was still in the room).

Besides, excellent view over the square, nicely located near a ferry station a(crossing the channe) and the chanel and a boat station.

Would recomend but with pataience due to seemingly common room mishaps.

NEGATIVE: Internet connection in my room didn't work. I needed to come to the recepction with my laptop to use internet.

No breakfast. (For the price, there should have been breakfast).

In my room there were 4 beds but only 3 keys, so we needed to leave our keys at the reception the whole time.

We could not lock our luggage.

I found the Sant Tomà hostel in Venice very convenient to stay at: easy to get to, close to the ferry, with shops and eat-out places close by.

The people were friendly and helpful.

I stayed there twice within 2 weeks. The only thing I didn't find so nice were flees in the mattress the first time around...

This hostel is great because of it's location. It is pretty central. Otherwise it is basic, clean and doesn't have much of a vibe. It's just a good springboard from which to explore Venice.

Ideal location in midst of the Island and close to San Marco Piazza. No internet and breakfast was disappointing given the price. The doubles rooms were nice with views overlooking a square and well ventilated. Reasonable quality for the price in high season. Room was very spacious.

The room was very clean and charming. The location was great, it's close to everything. It's a little bit hard to find though. There is no sign out front saying, "Backpacker's Hostel"-it's an unmarked building. I had to ask someone where it was. But it was a nice place and I'd recommend it.
Geoff, USA - Sep 03, 2009

The hostel has no sign outside of it, saying what it is, so it is incredibly difficult to find. Also, there is no internet and without any air conditioning, it is extremely uncomfortable. Pillows and beds suck too.

good place, had a great room.

needs air conditioning, it was quite difficult to sleep because the weather was so hot, but thats not the hostels fault.

a kitchen would be nice, considering venice's expensiveness, but again...

like a small, inexpensive hotel.

id stay there again if they got air conditioning, definitly.

having a bathroom in the room was a bonus, but it was not cleaned daily. not a very fun or social hostel, but great location.
