Life and activity of many known writers, poets, educators, the public and religious figures living and creating in Kazan is connected with the Old-Tatar sloboda. It is the Tatar educators and scientists S.Mardzhani and K.Nasyri, the great Tatar poet of Tukay and the founder of the Tatar theater, playwright G. Kamal, scientists K.Fuchs and N. Lobachevsky, great Russian poet A.Pushkin and the well-known poet F.Shalyapin.
