Maritza and her daughter Acela were wonderful hosts! Very accommodating and friendly. Their home is very cozy and located in the heart of Centro Habana. A nice getaway from the more touristy Habana Vieja. Thank you for the wonderful time!
The owner's reply
Thank you so much Gabriel, was nice to meet you.

Centro Habana is a run down, dirty central district with lots of traffic like many places in Habana. The room was quite small, dark to a narrow corridor backyards, which had the advantage to be silent, but neighbours smoked all day and night in the corridor. Thus, it was sleeping in smoke. Most difficult was a bedbug attack at night. I changed the hostel after one night.
The owner's reply
Sorry for bedbugs. Right now we don´t have any.

Loved our stay here so much we came back! We needed to stay for 2 more nights a few weeks later and took a risk and showed up at the door with no booking and Maritza welcomed us like it was home! Thank you Maritza. Greta location, clean, friendly, excellent breakfast, very helpful!
The owner's reply

Don't let the first impression of the neighborhood fool you, it is mostly just a cultural shock. Maritza's house was a great finding, conveniently located about 15min walk from Plaza Central and 5 from the Malecon, near 2 Wifi parks and several small cheap restaurants and bars. The rooms and facilitied were always clean, and Maritza and her daughter were also always in a bright mood and willing to help. Definitely a great value for the (really fair) price!

I had a great stay. Rooms and bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was very good. While I was there, the street was broken up. You have to walk like 25 minutes to old havana, so that's a bit too bad. Other than that, great experience!

We stayed in this Casa for 4 nights and the people were very friendly and helpful all the time. The breakfast was good and we could buy water in the casa. Unfortunately we thought we have a private bathroom but then we had to share the bathroom with other guests. Also the air condition was swithed of during the day, thus it was very hot in our room during the day. At night we had air condition in our room. Nevertheless, we would recommend this Casa.

Beside of the very cosy place, the dilicious and economic breakfast and very clean, good smelling toilets :), the best thing about this place are the owners. They helped us with so many things, good places in the city, where to buy stuff, transport, recomendations in other cities like were to rent rooms. They helped us during huricane irma and gave us a place to stay even though they didnt have electricity. Also they are very kidfriendly!

We were very happy with our stay at Maritza's. The price and location make up for the not-so-good air conditioning. Maritza kindly organized the transport and the accommodation for our next stop in Viñales.

As the name says, this is a hostal. Bit less like the other casas we stayed in. They were the least flexible (e.g. in arranging different times for breakfast). However, you also pay the least. Location is nice if you want to check out Havana Centro. We visited mainly Havana Vieja, then it takes a little longer walk. But it was nice to see a bit more of how local people live. Airco only could be used between 21h and 9h.

This is my first stop in Cuba

I lived in a 4 person mixed dorm during my stay I made some good friends which made my time in Cuba better

The host family is nice and helpful, they tried their best to help you

I cannot speak any Spanish but I don't find it hard to communicate with the host as Maritza and her daughter speaks good English

The house is clean and comfortable, with air conditioner and fan

The house located at central Havana and it is not too far to walk to the main attractions

Overall stay in Maritza's home is good and I have a good time here

I stayed in this Hostel for 1 night only.

The staff was very nice to me at the beginning and they even let me do the check in at 10pm when I arrived (I had warned them in advance I was arriving at that time).

they put me in a shared bedroom I had booked, in the upper bed in a bunkbed.

I left my staff there and went out and when I came back I saw a cockroach in my bed. I went crazy since I am very scared of them but then I didnt see it again. Next morning I asked them to clean the room and when I came back after lunch they said they had clean it, but as soon as I stepped in the room it was FULL of cockroaches, specially under my mattress! LOTS and LOTS, and I took my bag and there where two around it. IT WAS DISGUSTING. Thank God they had cleaned it!!!!!!

I asked my money back for the next 2 nights I was staying in Havana and they booked me to another hostel, which was more expensive but perfectly clean and they were very very nice in there.

However, when I was packing and rushing to leave that place, they didn't forget I had to give them 1$ for the bottle of water, which I thought was very unnecessary.

The owner's reply
Sorry for everythink. Now, we don´t have any kind of cockroach in any place, unfurturtunaly, people bring it of airports.

I am a single female and stayed in the shared 4 bed room for 8 nights in total. Maritza is a great host and can communicate in English if you need her to. The price is good, the location is also good - halfway between the Old Town and Vedado. It's a 15 mins straight walk to the Old Town. It's across the road from Rolando's. I met a girl who'd switched hostels because Maritza's is much quieter and she needed sleep! I will stay here again if I return to Havana.

The place is really comfortable, clean and private. The landlady gives you information about what to do in Cuba like if she were your own mother, they provide good breakfast in it's located close to a "paladar" cheap restaurant for locals and tourists. I received total support from the family who lives there and I also strongly recommend to live the Cuban experience from this place firstly.

Excellent value for money, clean and centrally placed for exploring Havana on foot. Maritza and her husband were kind, absolutely trustworthy, very helpful and informative re getting about and her English good enough to cope with my non-Spanish. I am definitely going back there next year for 1 month at least!

Maritza is a great host and helped me a lot with good and important tipps and advice. Her Hostal is a 10 minute walk to the capitolio so it's very central but in a not too touristy area (e.g. havana vieja), the cafeterias around are cheaper and you're very close to the malecon. You can also walk to the university where the food/restaurants are also cheap and good.

My stay at Maritza's was great. It's ideally located between old Havana and Varadero so you are less than a 15 min walk from either which is great.

Maritza was a fantastic hostess and was always there to help me when I needed it. The bed and room were comfortable and clean and I met very nice people during my stay. The breakfast is really nice too so I had it every morning I could. I would definitely recommend Maritza's hostel and if I ever go back to Havana I know where I'll be staying. Much love to Maritza x

Nice room in a decent location. The breakfast was quite cheap compared to other casas we stayed at. The staff were okay apart from trying to overcharge us on our second visit, and were sometimes a bit grumpy but we were allowed to store some of our stuff at the Casa when we continued our travels around Cuba, which was a nice gesture.

As with most things regarding money in Cuba, be mindful of what you're paying for etc. because most of the time you'll be overcharged.
