- Pedestrians beware, Amsterdam is a city built for two wheels not two legs. You will notice most of the city has separate walking and cycling lanes and crossing these boundaries is a high risk activity.

- Amsterdam's Red Light District is Europe's highest concentration of brothels, sex shops and various other businesses involved in the sex industry. Although relatively safe throughout the day, take care walking these streets at night as robbings are not out of the question for girls and boys alike. Also beware taking photos or staring into the windows as the prostitutes can become quite aggressive.

- So it's incredibly liberating sitting at a table with your friends and getting high outside, yes marijuana is legal here, but there are still catches and boundaries to consider. You are not allowed to carry more than 5 grams of soft drugs 'marijuana' on you at a time. Harder drugs are still illegal as is buying it on the streets. Beware also dear pot-smoking consumers that when you are purchasing cannabis in the 'coffee shops', as you are relying on third hand information, from the grower - to the seller - to you, there is always a chance you will not get what you paid for. Organic, Bio, Thai stick, Columbian or generic, skip these and go for something simple with a fresh, spicy smell and lots of resin. Depending on what you are looking for there is a Coffee Shop to suit everyone's tastes. 'The Bulldog' or 'Grasshopper' are some of the most popular places to smoke yet they are also over-crowded with tourists, you will find more characteristic and pleasant places down Amsterdam's side alleys and streets.
